Premium Business Signage That Make Your Brand Stand Out.

What are Front and Back Lit Channel Letters?
Front and Back Lit Channel Letters, are also called dual-lit or dual illumination or Combination-lit channel letters. These illuminated business signs are three-dimensional signs and logos constructed with a translucent face and back, with LED lights installed inside them. When the sign is turned on, Face Lit and Back Lit channel letters illuminate from both directions simultaneously. Light shines forward through a translucent acrylic face exactly like standard face lit letters and also projects backward from behind the letter onto the wall, creating a halo glow around each character. The result is a sign that combines maximum daytime visibility with a premium nighttime appearance.

Direct Wall Flush Installation
In this installation method, the Front and back lit Lit Channel letters each letter mounts individually to the building surface with standoff hardware that creates the required clearance gap. Wiring runs through the wall to a remote power supply. Cleaner aesthetic and no visible raceway. The standoff hardware is visible but is typically finished in a complementary color.
Raceway Installation
The raceway enclosure mounts to the building surface and houses the power supply and wiring. Face and Back Lit Channel letters are mounted to the face of the raceway, which provides the built in standoff clearance needed for the halo projection. Raceway mount is the faster installation method but is more expensive.
Backer Panel Installation
In this installation method for face and backlit channel letters, the illuminated signs are mounted on a backer panel and then attached to the building facade. Backer panel will add extra cost to the signage. Backer panel creates a consistent reflective surface and a clean architectural line with high-contrast halos.

Front Face illumination:
- The front-facing LED modules are mounted inside the letter cabinet and project light forward through the translucent acrylic face. The acrylic diffuses the light across the face of each letter, producing an even, bright glow with no visible hot spots. This is identical in mechanism to face lit channel letters.
- Thousands of Color options, Vinyl overlays or day-night films available for special effects.
- RGB : Dynamic color-changing effects with app or remote controllers.
Back Halo Glow Illumination:
- A second set of LED modules are mounted toward the rear of the cabinet, facing the wall. These modules project light backward, out of the open back of each letter, onto the wall surface behind. The light spreads across the wall and wraps slightly around the sides of each letter, creating a visible halo glow around the letter’s silhouette. This is the same mechanism as backlit channel letters.
- RGB : Dynamic color-changing effects with app or remote controllers.
Independent Color Control:
- In most installations for face and back lit channel letters, the face color and halo color can be specified independently. A common configuration is white halo with a colored face — the face glows in the brand color while the halo provides a crisp white perimeter. Both systems run on 12V DC low-voltage power, hardwired to a shared power supply or separate supplies depending on the scale of the installation.
Choose Front & Back Lit When
You need the highest possible visual impact and your environment supports it. Front and back lit channel letters are the premium choice, they carry more LED components, cost more than single direction letters, and produce a sign that performs in every lighting condition. They are the right call for flagship retail locations, entertainment venue entrances, high-competition retail corridors where you need to stand out against multiple lit signs, and any installation where the sign is a centerpiece of the building’s visual identity.
They are also the right choice when you want the brand color visible in the face without giving up the premium halo effect where either face lit or backlit alone would mean compromising on one dimension of the visual.
Choose Face Lit When
Maximum daytime visibility is the primary goal and the premium halo effect isn’t a design requirement. Face lit channel letters are brighter face forward than dual lit letters at a lower cost, and they are the dominant choice for most retail, food service, and commercial storefronts where the sign needs to read clearly from a moving vehicle in daylight. If the sign is being read from 200 feet away in direct sunlight, face lit delivers and the cost difference over dual lit is meaningful at scale.
Choose Backlit When
The aesthetic is the priority. You want the halo effect and a sophisticated, premium appearance, and you are willing to sacrifice some face forward brightness for it. Backlit channel letters are the right call for upscale retail, hospitality, corporate headquarters, and environments where the sign is designed to signal quality rather than just visibility. Backlit costs less than dual lit and produces a cleaner aesthetic in environments where the face glow isn’t needed.
Choose RGB (Face and Halo Lit) When
For entertainment, hospitality, and brands that use color as a marketing asset.
