What are Face Lit Channel Letters?
Face Lit Channel Letters, also known as Front Lit Channel Letters or illuminated Channel Letters, are three-dimensional signage fabricated from aluminum with a translucent acrylic face , with LED modules mounted inside the letter. When the LED lights are turned on, Face lit channel letters create a vibrant glow that illuminates the letter’s face. The result is a bright, bold glow that’s visible from a distance in all lighting conditions. Face lit Channel Letter Signs are made of materials such as Aluminum/Stainless Steel, Acrylic and LED lights.
Face lit channel letters are the standard choice across retail, food service, medical, and service industries, anywhere visibility from the street or parking lot is the primary requirement.

Direct Mount or Flush Mount Installation:
In this installation method, the Face Lit Channel letters are mounted directly to the building facade using anchors and screws on angle codes or threaded screw rods.
Raceway Installation:
In this installation method, the Face Lit Channel letters are mounted on a Raceway which is a rectangular metal box. This box also contains the electrical wiring and power supply. This Raceway is then attached to the building facade. This installation method is more simpler because it reduces the number of drill holes you will to make compared to Direct or Flush mount installation. The raceways can also be painted to match the color of your building. Raceway will add additional cost to the signage.
Backer Panel Mount Installation:
In this installation method, the Face Lit Channel letters are mounted on a backer panel and then attached to the building facade. This can be helpful to bring a contrast to your signage with the color of your building. This installation method also reduces the number of drill holes required for installing Front Lit Channel Letters. Backer panel will add extra cost to the signage.
FACE-LIT CHANNEL LETTER SIGN GALLERY
Retail Storefronts:
Strip mall tenants, shopping center anchors, and standalone retail depend on face lit letters for street level visibility from passing traffic. The bright, high-contrast glow is what gets drivers to slow down and read the sign.
Restaurants and Food Service:
QSR, fast casual, and family dining businesses almost universally use face lit letters for exterior identification. Night visibility is critical, and face lit delivers.
Medical and Dental Offices:
Clinics, urgent care centers, and specialty practices use face lit letters for clean, professional exterior identification that reads clearly from parking lot distances.
Other Commercial Categories:
Gyms and fitness centers, auto service businesses, salons and spas, and financial services are all strong users of face lit channel letters for the same core reason: they need to be seen clearly, from a distance, in daylight.
Choose Face Lit When:
Maximum visibility is the goal, you need the sign to be readable from a distance during daylight hours, in direct sun, or from a moving vehicle. Face lit letters are brighter, bolder, and more visible in high ambient light environments. They’re also the standard for multi-tenant retail centers and strip malls where high visibility is a baseline requirement.
Choose Backlit When:
Premium aesthetic is the priority — you want the sign to project quality and sophistication rather than just visibility. Backlit channel letters cast a halo of light onto the wall behind each letter, creating a softer, more architectural effect that reads especially well at night and on lighter-colored building surfaces.
Both formats are fully customizable in font, size, and color. If you’re unsure which fits your project, request a quote and our team can advise based on your building facade, lighting environment, and brand requirements.
